INTO THE STREAM

Been here before
in my twenties
when love was how you feel
not who you feel it for
man
woman
love reigned in the heart
then African judgements
Family concerns
looks of disapproval
blocked the good vibes
replaced it with shame
and doubt
tore off my rainbow ensemble
replaced it with the
grays
browns
and blah
life’s wheel kept
on spinning
passing days
then months
then years
engaged
not engaged
engaged
then married
then a child
no longer me
I searched for
who I was
and from the corner
of my eye,
streams of color
showed up!
Curious
I stepped out of the
grays
browns
and blah
and into the stream
and life had a new beat
he
she
we
danced
kissed
loved
and in this old-new
vibe
is me
Bi.
